Chosen
Valerie Lawson

Who knows why
the name comes easily

to the lips or better
removed: You

becomes polarizing force
lightning rod everybody's dog

Golden Rule hammered
beyond malleability

meaningless scrap
a crooked star

pinned on your chest
erased eventually

to the number
crawling up your arm,

a small pile of ash
next breath blows away
